Future Craft Lab is a collective of members fascinated by Japan’s traditional craftsmanship, working under the theme of “Expanding Tradition.” By combining traditional techniques such as Kumiko woodworking and textile weaving with the latest digital technologies, we aim to broaden and enhance the value of Japan’s heritage crafts.

kumikoAI

kumikoAI is a system that focuses on the design and planning process of Kumiko woodworking. By applying image generation and related technologies, it complements and extends the intuitive design practices of artisans.

3D Kumiko Art

This is a next-generation Kumiko art project that utilizes a proprietary 3D modeling system to enable advanced shading verification and production simulation, adding a dimensional depth to Kumiko artworks.

Archive of Patterns

We are digitally archiving the hundreds of Kumiko patterns said to exist across Japan, and integrating them into our system through a proprietary data management method.
